Relive the Best of Dolphy on Jeepney TV!

The best of Dolphy’s most popular stints in the entertainment industry are once again to be revived on Jeepney TV this July in celebration of his 85th birthday and in honor of his undying contribution to the world of Philippine comedy.


The King of Comedy’s signature television show, “Home Along Da Riles”, a situational comedy that aired on ABS-CBN from 1992-2003 and currently being re-aired on Jeepney TV, will recount the memories and let the laughter keep ringing. Special episodes such as when Kevin Kosme, Dolphy’s character, travels to the U.S.A. and meets up with his long-time comedy partner Panchito, as well as clip shows that put together the show’s best musical numbers, fantasy sequences and Kevin’s birthday celebrations along “da riles” are featured on all Thursdays of July, with special back-to-back episodes aired from 7:45 p.m. to 9:45 p.m.
Dolphy’s most memorable movie blockbusters such as “Dancing Master”, “Kung Ano’ng Puno, Siyang Bunga”, “The Best in the West”, “Good Morning, Professor”, and “Fung Ku” will stand as proof of his timeless talent as they air on “Reteatro” from July 22-26 at 3:00 p.m.
Meanwhile, Dolphy’s dramatic streak is showcased in the series “May Bukas Pa”, where he breathes life into the character of Pilo, who takes refuge in a home for the aged. These episodes of “May Bukas Pa” air on July 3, 4, 5, and 8 at 7:00 p.m.
On the “Let’s Go Linggo!” block of Jeepney TV this July, different facets of the King of Comedy will be shown, captured in the 2012 documentary “Dolphy: Hari ng Komedya”, the movie “John & Marsha ‘77” based on his long-running television series, and a Jeepney TV original special entitled “Dolphy: Song and Dance Man”, which culls together his best musical performances.

A marathon of the films of the late Dolphy will be aired the entire week to salute the Comedy King’s stint in show business.

The “Kool Pinoy Cinema” block which airs every 7:00 a.m. features “John and Marsha” on July 17, “Anthony and Cleopatra” on June 18, “War Kami ng Misis Ko” on July 19 and “Dolphy’s Angel” on July 20. The “Laughternoon Out Loud” block which airs every 1:00 p.m. features “Jack & Jill of the Third Kind” on July 17, “Nang Maghalo Ang Balat Sa Tinalupan” on July 18, “Captain Barbell” on July 19 and “The Godfather” on July 20. GMA-7 Honors Comedy King Dolphy!

GMA Network paid tribute to the late Comedy King Dolphy through a necrological service last Saturday, July 14 at the Heritage Park, Taguig, one day before the he was finally laid to rest on Sunday.

Atty. Felipe L. Gozon, Chairman and CEO of GMA Network, Inc., said in his eulogy that despite not being a talent of the Network, GMA “embraces him as an authentic entertainment icon [who] belongs to all the people.”

The Network presented the Quizon Family with a posthumous plaque recognizing Dolphy’s “unrivaled wholesome entertainment [as a] consummate artist both in comedy and drama” and his “genuine concern for co-workers.”

“Ang pakikiramay at pagdadalamhati sampu ng pasasalamat na pinamamalas ngayon di lamang ng mga taong nakapila sa labas, ng mga taong nandito sa loob, kundi ng buong sambayanang Pilipino, ay isang natatanging pagpapahalagang higit pa sa anumang award na nararapat ibigay kay Dolphy,” said Atty. Gozon.

Actor-director Eric Quizon accepted the plaque in behalf of his family, and expressed their appreciation for the Kapuso Network. He also shared how his father almost became a Kapuso, remembering the time when GMA presented Dolphy with an offer to do a show. Although the plan never really materialized, Quizon said that his family will always be grateful to GMA for that “unforgettable gesture.”

Kapuso talents, who once had the opportunity to work with and get to know Dolphy, also shared their fondest memories with the comedy icon.

Veteran actress Nova Villa and actress-turned-politician Maybelline dela Cruz tearfully recalled their experiences while working with him on the set of their sitcom for 15 years. Chroreographer Geleen Eugenio, on the other hand, shared how Dolphy played a big role in her successful career.

Among those who rendered song numbers during the memorial service for the King of Comedy include Ogie Alcasid, Regine Velasquez, Frencheska Farr and Mark Bautista.

Other Kapuso stars who attended were Richard Gutierrez, Geoff Eigenmann, TJ Trinidad, Bearwin Meily, Chariz Solomon, Maey, Betong, and German Moreno, who is one of Dophy’s friends in the industry, among others. Carla Abellana hosted the tribute, while the mass was officiated by Fr. Eric Santos.

Dolphy’s Life Off-Cam to be Featured in ‘Patrol ng Pilipino’!

ABS-CBN news reporter Apples Jalandoni presents the life of the late Comedy King Dolphy through the eyes of his closest friends, colleagues, and loved ones in a special tribute report in “Patrol ng Pilipino” tomorrow (July 17) on ABS-CBN.

Get to know Mang Pidol beyond the popular characters he portrayed from the accounts of ABS-CBN presidentCharo Santos-Concio, who was his leading lady in the movie “My Juan and Only,” and from actor Gio Alvarez, who played as his son in the Kapamilya sitcom “Home Along Da Riles.”

The oldest living employee of the Manila Grand Opera House, meanwhile, shares how the extremely talentedDolphy was destined to make it big in the entertainment industry even when he was still a peanut and butong pakwan vendor and eventually, a stage performer.

Recently, the Ombudsman suspended QC councilors, including actor Roderick Paulate, for allegedly maintaining ghost employees in the city hall’s payroll.

ABS-CBN Re-Airs DOLPHY’S “MMK” Episode this Tonight!

ABS-CBN RE-AIRS DOLPHY’S “MMK” EPISODE. ABS-CBN pays tribute to the one and only King of Comedy, Dolphy through “Maalaala Mo Kaya” as it will re-air this Saturday (July 14) the heartwarming heavy family drama episodetopbilled the late showbiz legend.

In the story, Dolphy gave life to the character of Abel, a father who was imprisoned for a crime he did not commit. After spending 40 years in jail, Abel spent his freedom trying to reunite his family. Together with Dolphy in the “MMK” episode were Epi Quizon, Marita Zobel, Roxanne Guinoo, Eric Fructuso, John Arcilla, Nash Aguas, and Makisig Morales. It was written by Ruel Montañez and Arah Jell Badayos, and directed by Jeffrey Jeturian.

Annabelle Rama goes berserk at the wake of Dolphy, attacks unknown reporter!

The feisty talent manager Annabelle Rama is at it again, and now at the wake of Dolphy, she could not contain her anger against showbiz reporter-columnist Chito Alcasid!

Rama reportedly got mad at an entertainment reporter on Friday, July 14, while having dinner at the wake at the Heritage Park in Taguig. Rama joined that night some former stars of Sampaguita Pictures, where Dolphy and her husband Eddie Gutierrez used to work together.

Rama followed the reporter upon going to the comfort room and she scolded and yelled at the reporter,  and even tried to hit him with a stick. The reporter then ran into the dining room followed by shouting Rama holding a mic stand and shouting at the same time. German Moreno and Governor Chavit Singson stood in between.

After the incident she was seen leaving the scene covering her face accompanied by body guards.

In an interview, Alcid said Rama is furious of her because of several articles he wrote about her in the past.

This is what he said:

“Nagagalit sya sa akin dahil sa mga isinusulat ko tungkol sa kanya sa dyaryo at sa Facebook. Pero bakit dito pa sa burol ni Dolphy na di naman nya nirespeto.”

Rama, meanwhile, expressed her sentiments on Alcid through her official Twitter account (@annabellerama2). To quote:

Sarah Geronimo Pays Tribute to Dolphy this Sunday!

Popstar Sarah Geronimo pays a heartwarming tribute to the one and only King of Comedy Dolphy this Sunday, July 15, in her solo musical variety show “Sarah G. Live!”

Aside the tribute for the Comedy King, watch out for the hair-raising vocal act as Sarah shares the concert stage with Christian Bautista, Yeng Constantino, Jimmy Marquez, and Erik Santos; followed by the smash up dance number of the “Pinoy Big Brother Teen Edition 4” Big 4 Myrtle, Karen, Roy and the twins Joj and Jai. Schedule of Dolphy’s wake revealed!

The Quizon family has released the official schedule for Dolphy’s wake.

Friends, family, and fans can pay their final respects until Sunday.

  • Dolphy’s remains will lie in state at the ABS-CBN Dolphy Theater starting, Wednesday, July 11, from 1 p.m. to 3 a.m.
  • From Thursday until Saturday, public viewing will be from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. only, at the Heritage Memorial Park, Taguig City.
  • Interment will be on Sunday.

Dolphy passes away at 83!

King of Comedy Dolphy succumbed to multiple organ failure after a five-year battle with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)!

Dolphy, died on Tuesday night at around 8:34 pm. He was 83.

Makati Medical Center issued a statement of his death:

“We would like to inform the public that Mr. Rodolfo ‘Dolphy’ Quizon, passed away today, at 8:34 p.m. due to multiple organ failure, secondary to complications brought about by severe pneumonia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and acute renal failure.”
“We join the entire Filipino Community in praying for the soul of Mr. Quizon and his dearly beloved family and friends. To the Quizon Family, we extend our deepest condolences”

His remains have been brought to the Heritage Park in Taguig, and will be brought later to ABS-CBN!

Kapatid Stars Nominated for Yahoo! OMG Awards 2012

Some of TV5’s biggest stars land nominations in this year’s OMG Awards organized by Yahoo! Philippines. The OMG Awards are given out to the best and brightest in Philippine entertainment.

Among the Kapatid stars recognized vying for the coveted entertainment awards are showbiz pillars SuperstarNora Aunor, Megastar Sharon Cuneta and Comedy King Dolphy who are all nominated in the “Major Impact” category. Derek Ramsay, meanwhile, clinched a nomination in the “Actor of the Year” category.

TV5 princesses Jasmine Curtis-Smith (“Best Female Newcomer” category) and Eula Caballero (“Most Promising Actress of the Year” category) themselves bagged nominations in this year’s OMG Awards. AJ Muhlach proves to be a strong contender in the “Best Male Newcomer” category, while Lokomoko’s Edgar Allan Guzman and Kapitan Awesome star Martin Escudero are both nominated under the “Breakthrough Actor of the Year” category.

Jose Manalo and Wally Bayola of The Jose and Wally Show are shortlisted in the “Comedian of the Year” category alongside industry veteran and co-star Vic Sotto. Bossing Vic also bagged a nomination for “Favorite Male TV Host” category with Wil Time Bigtime’s main presenter Willie Revillame and Talentadong Pinoy master of ceremonies Ryan Agoncillo.

Nominees who get the most number of online votes will win the category. Fans can vote for their favorite celebrities once a day from now until June 28 at the Yahoo OMG Awards site ( Winners will be announced during the awards night on July 6 (Friday) at the SM Mall of Asia Arena
