‘Ang Turkey Man ay Pabo Rin’ to open at Ayala Cinemas nationwide, trailer revealed!

A cross-cultural comedy about a Filipino American couple who celebrates life with karaoke music, superstitious in-laws, immigration laws, unexpected pregnancies, brown-outs and Thanksgiving turkey will finally get its much awaited theatrical run this month.

Yes, “Ang Turkey Man Ay Pabo Rin,” the critically acclaimed comedy by first-time director Randolph Longjas, will be shown exclusively at Ayala Malls Cinemas nationwide starting December 18.

Longjas is very grateful to Atty. Joji Alonso of Quantum Films for picking up the film for distribution and to Ayala Cinemas for heeding the public clamor for a commercial release.

“I’m just really thankful that Quantum Films and Ayala Mall helped me in this theatrical showing. It’s exciting to see this film on a wider platform and audience. I didn’t even see it coming that it’ll be distributed as early as the year ends,” the neophyte filmmaker said.

Although Longjas has cut an all-new trailer for the coming theatrical release, the version that audiences will see this month is actually the same as the one shown during the CineFilipino festival last September.

For his part, CineFilipino festival director Vincent Nebrida said the coming theatrical release of “Ang Turkey Man ay Pabo Rin” has his wholehearted support. The film is the second CineFilipino entry to open in theaters after “Ang Kwento ni Mabuti”, which enjoyed a week-long extended run immediately after the festival.

“We are working towards the commercial, theatrical screenings of other CineFilipino entries early next year,” Nebrida revealed to InterAksyon, citing the strong clamor for releases of other CineFilipino hits like Sigrid Andrea Bernardo’s “Ang Huling Cha-Cha ni Anita”, Sari and Kiri Dalena’s “The Guerrilla is a Poet” and Mike Alcazaren’s “Puti”.

Written by Ronald Allan Habon and starring Tuesday Vargas, Travis Kraft, Julia Clarete, Cai Cortez and JM De Guzman, “Ang Turkey Man ay Pabo Rin” is an experimental comedy that explores the trials, tribulations, and triumphs of Cookie and Matthew, a Filipino-American couple on a universal love trip — that which does not discriminate against color, stature, or culture.

Longjas says it is “a celebration of the Filipino experience from a foreigner’s perspective, and alternatively, the realization of the American dream in a Filipino’s eyes”.

Considered as the sleeper hit of CineFilipino, the film also had a successful re-screening at UP Cine Adarna last month where survivors of typhoon Yolanda who are now in Manila were allowed to watch the film for free. The proceeds of the screening were also for the benefit of the typhoon victims as Longjas expressed his intention to buy portable radios to help connect the survivors to the outside world following the breakdown of communications in the aftermath of Yolanda.

Tuesday Vargas, who stars as Cookie, earlier said that through the film, Longjas and Habon want to remove the stigma attached to stereotyped characters like Cookie and Matthew, played by expat Travis Kraft.

“Gusto kong maka-relate yung tao sa ganun, sa mga characters who aspire to be greater than themselves kahit nilalagay sila ng society sa isang kahon, sa isang bilog,” Tuesday pointed out.

For her part, Julia Clarete who plays Osang, one of Cookie’s best friends, said that she fell in love with the film’s script the first time she read it.

“It was the plot that got me to the last page—a timely story that addresses the touching and hilarious journey of a Filipina in a relationship with a foreigner,” Julia noted.

Ang Turkey Man ay Pabo Rin” is produced by Tonee Acejo and edited by Carlo Manatad, and Joris Fernandez with cinematography by Tom Redoble, music by Jedd Dumaguina, production design by Butch Garcia and Nette Madrid.
